The Cosmopolitan Chicken Project started by crossing two pure bred chickens (Mechelse Koekoek and French Bresse). In a next step, the resulting crossing is crossed with another pure bred, and these steps are repeated again and again. The counter is now on 18 crossings.

The story of the crossings in the Cosmopolitan Chicken Project has been like a world travel encompassing 18 countries until now from Belgium, France, United Kingdom, United States, Germany, Netherland, Mexico, Thailand, Brazil, Turkey, Cuba, Italy, Russia, China, Egypt, Senegal, Slovenia and Austria. And the journey still continues.

Following the idea that the chicken says something specific about a country, we can consider money and monetary value also as something specific to that country. When following the logic of Koen’s project we (financially) cross the price of eggs of the Mechelse Koekoek (Belgium, 2.37€) with the Bresse (France, 2.62 €) resulting in a price 2.50 € for eggs of the Mechelse Bresse (=the crossing).
